Spanish courses in Salamanca

We offer Spanish courses throughout the year, with maximum of nine students in each class. Our teachers are all with degrees in philology and have extensive teaching experience.
You can choose between 12 courses, in 9 levels. Students in Beginner’s level (level 1) can only start the course on the first Monday of each month. (see dates).
The curriculum has been structured to allow student to enter and leave the program at virtually any point. This means that the students can study intensive Spanish when they want and as long as they want. The student can spend 2 weeks, full month or up to 9 months with us.
Salamanca 1: Tutorials (free!) If a student cannot keep up with the learning pace of his/her fellow students, or has not understood a topic very well, they can be given an extra individual class with new explanations and exercises. The objective of the tutorials is to ensure that all of the groups have the same level of learning and are equally intense and benefical for everyone.
We offer following Spanish courses in Salamanca:
Course 20h (Salamanca 1 & 2) 4 hs a day Levels: 1-9
This is the most suitable course for the majority of students. An intensive course that allows you to learn quickly and to participate in the college´s programmed activities where you will continue to learn. During the first two hours, you will be taught various grammatical themes and they will be supported by a variety of exercices. These will include the correction of sentences, examples, structural work on texts... The following two hours will be devoted to conversation: oral and written expression, vocabulary, idioms, comprehensions...
Course 30h: 6 hs a day (Salamanca 1) 6 hs a day Levels: 3-9
09:00 to 10:00: You can choose between Culture, Literature, Conversation or Translation 10:00 - 12:00: Grammar 12:00-14:00: Conversation 16:00 to 17:00 Monday: Colloquial conversation Tuesday: Short writing exercises Wednesday: Commentary of texts Thursday: Formal conversation Friday: Spanish cooking
One-to-One: Intensive individual training (Salamanca 1&2) Levels: 1-9 timetable: flexible (Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 19:00 hrs.)
This is a course aimed at executives with little free time or students who wish to prepare for a specific exam for their school or university. The student chooses the subject: grammar, conversation, translation, economics, literature, history…
Spanish + Culture: 5 hs a day (Salamanca 1) Monday to Friday, from 09:00 to 14:00 hrs Levels: 3-9
This allows you to make the most of every morning with 5 hours of classes, leaving the afternoons for you to join in with all of the programmed activities.
1st hour: Culture. You will discover the real Spain through its history, art and economics. 2nd and 3rd hours: Grammar 4th and 5th hours: Conversation
Spanish + Literature (Salamanca 1): 5 hs a day Monday to Friday, from 09:00 to 14:00 hrs Levels: 3-9
From 09:00 to 10:00 hrs you will study the key centuries and styles of Spanish literature through the most significant authors and their works. Texts will be analysed, both prose and poetry; books will be recommended and literary commentaries given. 2nd and 3rd hours: Grammar 4th and 5th hours: Conversation
Spanish + Conversation (Salamanca 1): 5 hs a day Monday to Friday, from 09:00 to 14:00 hrs Levels: 1-9
1st hour: Conversation. Colloquial expressions, debates and discussions on current texts. Students who have a beginner’s level of Spanish will be familiarized with basic vocabulary which will enable them to get around and travel in Spain independently and with confidence. 2nd and 3rd hours: Grammar 4th and 5th hours: Conversation
Spanish + Translation (Salamanca 1): 5 hs a day Monday to Friday, from 09:00 to 14:00 hrs Levels: 3-9
1st hour (from 09:00 to 10:00 hrs): Inverse translation with four options: English-Spanish, German-Spanish, French-Spanish, Italian-Spanish
There are different types of texts worked upon in class: newspapers, literary, social, political, economics , etc…
2nd and 3rd hours: Grammar 4th and 5th hours: Conversation

Spanish + Tourism (Salamanca 1): 5 hs a day Monday to Friday, from 09:00 to 14:00 hrs Levels: 3-9
1st hour (from 09:00 to 10:00 hrs.): Spanish Geography, Touristic resources: nature and cultural, Impact of Tourism in Spain. 2nd and 3rd hours: Grammar 4th and 5th hours: Conversation
Business Spanish (Salamanca 1): 2 hs a day Monday to Friday, from 16:00 to 18:00 hrs. or from 18:00 to 20:00 hrs. Levels: 5-9
An ideal course to expand your knowledge of commercial language. Designed for companies, executives, students of economics and tourism…
1st hour: Commercial correspondence, types of letters, C.V.’s 2nd hour: Analysis and discussion of contemporary articles from specialized economic publications. Spain before the E.U., topics on Macro and Microeconomics. With afternoon classes you can also take a standard language course in the morning.
D.E.L.E. course (Salamanca 1): 4 hs a day Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 14:00 hrs. or from 16:00 to 20:00h
We have two special courses for the preparation of the D.E.L.E. - Basic D.E.L.E. - Superior D.E.L.E.
Each year we start the preparation for these two exams at the beginning of February and also at the beginning of September.
During the first two hours of this class, theoretical and practical aspects of grammar will be studied. In the 3rd and 4th hours work will be done on specific aspects of the exam: reading and listening comprehensions, personal interviews, written skills, essays, exercises on technical vocabulary.
Some time before the test, past exam papers will be worked on in class as well as reading and listening comprehensions, and interviews.
The D.E.L.E. (Diploma of Spanish as a foreign language) is the only official valid diploma recognized by the Spanish State. This exam can be taken in Spain or in Cervantes institutes and Spanish embassies in the rest of the world. It takes place twice a year in the middle of May and at the end of November, both basic and superior levels are taken during these months.
Students with a level below Intermediate must have had previous training before the beginning of the D.E.L.E. course to guarantee success in the exam. Students who miss two D.E. L.E. classes consecutively without being excused will automatically be transferred to a standard course A.

Spanish course for senior citizens (50+) (Salamanca 1): 4 hs a day Levels: 3-9 Starts: October, November, December Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 13:00 hrs.
This is a course specifically designed for adults with a special motivation and interest in Culture and traditions in Spain, also made up with the study of Spanish Language. 1st hour (from 9:00 to10:00 h.): Grammar. 2nd and 3rd hours: (from 10:00 to 12:00 h): Conversation 4th hour: (from 12:00 to 13:00 h.): Cultural visits, lectures, presentations.
Selectividad: Selectivity preparation course (Salamanca 1)
‘Selectividad’ is the exam (they are really 8 different ones) that Spanish students must take after high school if they want to go to university. Foreign students are also allowed to study in Spanish universities as long as they take this exam, just like Spanish students do. Our school has recently signed a partnership with one of the best private schools in Salamanca which prepares students to pass these ‘Selectividad’ exams. ‘Selectividad’ is hold twice a year, in June and in September.
Starting date: September, 20th* Finishing date: May 30th
Compulsory Subjects are: Spanish Language (5 hours per week) Criticism (2 hours per week)
Optional Subjects (to choose three) A. Science Option: Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography B. Literary Option: Spanish Literature, Moderns History, Latin, History of Arts, Maths II, Philosophy All these subjects are teached 4 hours by week
Length of the course: 32 weeks. There will be no lessons, due to national holidays: 2 weeks in Christmas and 2 weeks in Easter.
Number of hours per week: 19 hours
Total number of hours: from September to May (both included): 608 hours.
This price includes: lessons. all the teaching materials (folder, photocopies, pen), Convalidation of Degree, exam fees, any official management.
If the student did not pass the exam in June, he/she can retake it in September. The course to prepare the exam in September starts in July and will last two and a half months.
Classrooms will have a maximum of 7 students.
On the first day of the course, the appropriate level for each student will be assessed through a written and oral exam.

On the last Thursday of every month there is a test for you to see how much you have learnt. Also each month, the teachers hand in a report on the progress of each student to the Director of Studies (continuous evaluation). Once you finish your course and have passed both forms of assessment, you will receive a diploma from our Spanish school, stating your level of Spanish and your test result. Only students who have completed at least one level (four weeks) will receive a diploma. Should a student not pass the assessments, they will receive a course attendance certificate.
Those students who continue to study, after passing the assessments, will advance to the next learning stage the following month.
In order to obtain either the diploma or the certificate, and also to be able to advance to the next level, it is compulsory to have attended a minimum of 90% of the classes.
Note: The start date of each level (the first working day of each month), is indicated in ”Dates”
Students who start at the college after the first week of the month may join a course which has already started at their corresponding level.
