The City of Roses¨ or ¨The Pearl of the West¨as the locals call it, was founded by the Spanish in the year 1542 and is now second only to Mexico City in population, production, and commerce. However, it is second to none in charm, beauty, and the warmth of its people. Guadalajara´s innumerable colonial buildings, museums, theaters, churches, and parks all contribute to making the city truly rich in history and culture. Guadalajara is also located within a few hours drive to the world famous Mexican beach resort of Puerto Vallarta.
The people of Guadalajara also enjoy one of the most temperate climates in the world; the year round temperature is about 75 degrees. All of this and much more have made Guadalajara the center of culture and comfort in western Mexico.

In addition, the city of Guadalajara is known throughout the entire country of Mexico as one of the most traditional of Mexican cities. Afterall, it is the birth-place of Mariachi and Tequila. Mariachi music, played by a traditional Mexican orchestra, originated right here in a little town very close to Guadalajara. Tequila, the world-famous Mexican beverage, originated and is produced all throughout this region of the state of Jalisco. The culture and architecture of Mexico abounds in this city that is over 460 years old. The cathedral is the most prominent example of an innumerable amount of colonial architecture. It exemplifies the timelessness of the culture of colonial Mexico.
Guadalajara, while retaining its provincial Mexican enchantment, offers the visitor all the modern conveniences that will assure he or she will not have to do without any of the comforts, cultural interests, sporting events, or entertainment to which he or she is accustomed to. These are a few of the reasons that have lured many visitors from other countries to make Guadalajara their home or for those pursuing cultural goals their center of learning.
In order to enhance your Spanish learning experience, the following extracurricular activities are provided as an optional part of your learning. You may choose the activities that are of most interest to you. The following extracurricular activities are currently offered:
City Tours Exciting activities during the summer months are the walking and bus tours. They are open to the public so that students can visit with other vacationers. The tour visits many places and sites of interest around the city. Since Guadalajara sports a wealth of beautiful architecture and historical buildings, these tours are very worthwhile. Most of the sites visited are located in the downtown area, as is our school. There are also tours to other parts of the city and some little known, but very important sites. The tour guide informs participants about the significance and cultural points of each site. The best thing about these tours is that they are completely FREE. They are conducted on various days of the week, during both the morning and afternoon.
Ceramic Crafts
Would you be interested in learning the craft of ceramics during your stay in Guadalajara? This is just another one of the extracurricular activities that may be of interest to you. Our school of Spanish in Guadalajara works with a local ceramic school that can teach you and give you pointers on how to create your own works of art. The lessons are provided FREE of charge, students only need to buy all the necessary materials. Classes are held in the afternoons and you may attend as long as you wish during the class hours. Do not let this opportunity to learn the art of ceramics pass you by.
Excursions In addition to the wide variety of cultural events that take place here in the historical downtown area, which are always free of charge, our school organizes field trips to certain areas of special interest. Flexibility is a key feature in this program. Years of experience have taught us that not all students enjoy the same activities outside the classroom. There is a small additional charge for these excursions to cover the cost of transportation and the tour guide; our school does not receive any part of this fee. Excursions are organized in and out of the city, enabling students to compare the enthusiasm and bustle of modern Mexico with the most provincial countryside. Students are responsible for their own meals during the excursions.
Guitar Lessons Free guitar lessons are offered at our school. These lessons are conducted in our facilities in the evenings, on Saturdays. Students must either bring their own guitar or rent one in the city. Lessons consist of many of the most traditional Mexican ballads and songs.
Salsa Lessons Salsa is a street version of Mambo. Salsa reflects the joy and abandon of the tropical days.
Studying Spanish in Mexico involves living the culture of the people. All accommodations are available starting one day before the course and ending one day after the course.

All homestay families have been carefully selected and their properties inspected. The accommodations available are clean and comfortable.
Homestay includes three meals per day and begins one day prior to the beginning of the classes and concludes up to one day after classes finish. Students do their own laundry.
